Queer Women of Color Media Arts Project

Location:  San Francisco, CA
Project Description:

Queer Women of Color Media Arts Project (QWOCMAP) promotes the creation, exhibition and distribution of new films/videos that address the vital social justice issues that concern queer women of color and our communities, authentically reflect our life stories, and build community through art and activism. We actively invest in, develop and nurture the creativity of emerging media artists who are Asian/Pacific Islander, Black/African American, Chicana/Latina, Native American and Mixed-Race lesbians, bisexual, queer and questioning women in the Bay Area. QWOCMAP provides training, screening opportunities and resources free of charge to guarantee full access to our traditionally underserved community, particularly low-income and immigrant queer women of color. The QWOCMAP Community Partner model builds strategic relationships with other organizations for movement building, as well as shared outreach that deepens the quality of its relationships with queer women of color and other communities. Community Partners financially support, promote and send volunteers to specific Film Festival screenings that address issues relevant to the populations they serve. QWOCMAP also provides services to its Community Partners and other nonprofit organizations through QWOCMAP Productions, which offers videography, editing, production and workshops, and through its Distribution Program, which provides QWOCMAP Films for use in civic engagement, political education and policy campaigns. QWOCMAP and its Community Partners also join together for collaborative projects that amplify and deepen the work of each partner organization. Since 2007, over 50 organizations have joined QWOCMAP's Community Partner program.
