Believing that art is for everyone, the Mabee-Gerrer Museum of Art enriches individual lives and enhances the entire community by empowering diverse audiences to engage with works of art from many cultures and time period

Founded in 1919, the Mabee-Gerrer Museum of Art is one of the oldest museums in the state of Oklahoma. Father Gregory Gerrer, for whom the museum is named, was a Benedictine monk of considerable artistic talent. During Father Gerrer's travels to Europe, Africa and South America, he collected objects of artistic and ethnological value.

The museum's permanent collections include Egyptian, Greek and Roman objects; art from the Renaissance through the early 20th century; and large holdings of Native American African/Oceanic and Eastern cultural artifacts. In addition, the museum offers exciting special exhibitions throughout the year.

A center of arts and community, the museum offers something for everyone.  People ages 3-103 enjoy classes at the museum. Most classes explore visual arts techniques and media or performance arts.  All ages appreciate the museum's spring fesitval, Arts Trek, a family-friendly arts adventure.  The museum also offers a rigorous field-trip program for visiting schools and student interest groups; Start with Art includes a tour, art activity, and student-centered, observation-based discussions about artworks.

To help ensure that all have access to museum programs, the museum offers many free events and raises funds to provide free summer admission, class scholarships for students receiving any type of assistance, and admission scholarships for visiting student groups, and transportation scholarships for visiting school groups.

The museum strives through art and programming to empower students and members of our community to become life-long learners who respect, appreciate, and support the arts, education, history, and cultural diversity and who act as vehicles for positive growth and social change in our community and beyond.
