Who We Are: The Youth Dreamers, Inc. is a non-profit organization which runs the Dream House, the only youth-run youth center in Baltimore. Founded in a middle-school Community Action class a decade ago, the Youth Dreamers and their community partners worked tirelessly to find, purchase, and completely renovate an abandoned house at 1430 Carswell St. in the Coldstrem-Homestead-Montebello neighborhood of Baltimore. Open since May 2010, the Dream House is a warm and vibrant space in which the Youth Dreamers, a core group of engaged and passionate middle and high school students, can fulfill their dream of providing a unique safe haven for youth to accomplish personal goals, develop their leadership potential, and participate in improving their communities. What We Do: At the Dream House young people in Baltimore can learn, lead, and teach in the peer-tutored Homework Club; keep the Dream House alive by writing grants, organizing fundraisers, and planning community events; explore their creativity in poetry, drama, and community arts programs; experience a world of exciting new things in workshops taught by members of the community; and have a safe, warm, and inviting place to hang out with their friends after school. The Dream House provides a space where our youth leaders can not only make an immediate impact on the community through our after school and community service programs but also develop the life and leadership skills necessary to ensure that they will be making positive contributions to the community for years to come.
